The gout flare is most often self limited without treatment. Treatment with NSAID, colchicine or prednisone will alleviate the inflammatory pain and probably shorten the course. You can choose no treatment if you are afraid of medication adverse effect and you can tolerate the pain. By the way, is colchicine or NSAID contraindicated in your case because you have kidney disease?

Gout flares subside in a few days usually- faster with cortisone. But any anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen will help. Hope you feel better
