Depends: The vnus closure uses rf energy to seal varicose veins where the catheter was placed. During the seal process, the vein is thrombosed. The sealed vein will, over time be absorbed by the body..Until that time, the vein maybe visible or palpable. Absorption should be completed by the body over 4-8 months. Often times patients require added sclerotherapy for associated varicose veins post vnus.

Takes time.: Vnus closure seals the leaking valves in the saphenous veins and following this you can usually feel the clotted vein in the medial thigh for several weeks. Associated varicose veins may dissolve over time, but usually, they will require removal by a separate procedure called microphlebectomy or sometimes sclerotherapy. Many vein surgeons do both procedures at the same time.

VNUS Closure Veins: No, this does not mean that the treatment did not work. The vnus closure procedure only closes the "source vein" or "trunk vein" and not the surface branches. Just like a tree, the veins have a source trunk and branches. The procedure closed the trunk ; now it will take some time for the branches to shrink. Expect about 6 weeks for maximum results. You still may need surgery on the branches later.

VNUS does not treat: the varicose veins you see. It treats failed veins that are underneath and out of sight that (probably) broke the veins that you see. Sometimes the surface veins improve just by treating the deeper vein. But, usually, you will need more treatment - either sclerotherapy to inject the surface veins so they will shrink or phlebectomy to remove them. Vein treatment usually takes several visits.
