Simple office treatm: A varicose vein is ugly and can be removed with painless minimal invasion office surgery. The real question is: why did the bulging vein appear? Can new ones be prevented? The answer to both it "yes". Varicose veins usually arise from a high-pressure venous environment caused by leaking valves. The cause is usually attributed to family history, hormone changes, or a "standing up" occupation.

No time off work: See a vein specialist. A venous ultrasound of your leg veins should be done to find the cause of your varicose veins and make a treatment recommendation. A treatment option that helps symptoms but doesn't make the veins go away is compression stockings. Other more definitive options include laser or radiofrequency ablation, ambulatory phlebectomy, and/or sclerotherapy. Rarely is time off needed.
