A member asked:

Good afternoon doctors. my urologist wants me to do a fleet enema before a prostate biopsy. i live alone and am worried that i may not do the enema correctly. is there an oral medication i can take similar to a fleet enema like i did for colonoscopy?

Not really. A fleets is designed to empty the last segment of your large bowel so the debris in not in the way of your procedure. Oral medications are not dependable for this. They are slow to work and incomplete when/if they do. I would look for a demonstration video online if you need to get some pointers on doing it. The fleets kit has written instructions.

Colonoscopy prep is more involved and rigorous you dont have to do that. Fleets enema comes with instructions read and follow, and are easy. Lie down, gently insert well lubricated nozzle end in the rectum and squeeze the contents in completely. When you get an unsuppressed urge to go sit on the toilet and empty your bowels. You can do it. Its easy. good luck
