A member asked:

What does a negative down syndrome result through nipt testing for fetus actually mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Non-invasive pre-natal testing (NIPT) does provide accurate assessment of genetic incidence of Downs syndrome (trisomy 21), trisomy 18 and trisomy 13 at a certainty of 99%, 97% and 87% respectively. Definitive genetic testing (invasive) will confirm if there is a questionable result from NIPT.
