A member asked:

I get bronchitis even from small colds, and prednisone always helps tremendously. can i rely on prednisone to use if i get covid? my son has it, and i've been exposed (though i'm triple-vaxed.) wondering if i can use steroids, if necessary?

I would never suggest anyone self treat with powerful prescription meds. The first stem in good care is a consultation with the doc who knows your specific history. They may consider it among other treatments. Current circulating strains are less lung and more upper airway focused.

Screen for COVID 19 with a self test kit or by lab testing for at least 7 days post exposure. The steroids that you are prescribed for lung inflammation may indicate that you have underlying asthma or COPD. Consider pulmonary function testing, but routine use of steroids as an outpatient to manage COVID 19 is not generally recommended. Monitor temperature and breathing.
