A member asked:

I read that eating foods fortified with folic acid can disguise a b12 deficiency. should i worry about eating fortified cereals? i am vegetarian and i get a good portion of my daily intake from fortified foods. i currently have a good level of b12?

If you feel well and free of any problems, then you do not need to worry about very small amounts of Folic acid used in fortified foods. We worry about Folic acid use in the face of Anemia and low vitaminB12 levels. You do not have any such problem. So quit worrying about all this complex stuff.

Unless you have vitamin B12 deficiency taking folic acid is not a cause for concern. Unless you a vegan, you are getting B12 from milk and milk products. If you are a vegan, take sublingual B12 supplement.
