Faulty premise: Your premise is faulty as stated. I/we have not said some vitamin pills cannot replace some nutrients found in natural foods. There are essential vitamins that many can get from food, except those with defects that impair absorption. There are essential fats and proteins found in foods that are not available in most supplements/pills but might. If you want to survive on pills you are free to try.

Who says that?: I don't know anyone who says one can't get all the vitamins they need from supplements. But we need much more than vitamins to survive; we need minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids. One can get those from supplements like protein powders and essential oils but one would still miss out on thousands of important phytonutrients and fiber. Vitamins can be helpful but can't fully replace foods.

Not either or: If you are eating a balanced diet, you do not need supplements. If you are not, e.g. are on a vegan diet, you will need vitamin B12 and D supplements. If you have a metabolic disorder or malabsorption or an inadequate diet, you would need supplements. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
