A member asked:

Are dentists licensed to prescribe nitroglycerin if toothaches are suspected to be orofacial pain of cardiac origin?

Many dentists keep nitroglycerin tablets in their office in case there is a cardiac episode in the office. The dentist if necessary will place a tablet under your tongue. Toothaches occur before an angina episode due to poor oral health but are intensified if an anginal attack occurs.

As someone has diagnosed the pro-facial pain is of cardiac origin, a Physician, preferably an Cardiologist, should be treating the cardiac symptoms. Dentist may prescribe/administer appropriate medications on an emergency basis, but cardiac discrepancy should be treated by an expert in that field.
