How can iron and ferritin be at the higher end of the normal range, but my hct and hgb are well below the normal range? does this mean anemia?

Yes, relatively common, you do have anemia, but not of iron deficiency. A high ferritin suggests another condition, most time inflammatory and further work up will be needed.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, you may have thalassemia or deficiency of other nutrients that can cause anemia. Wish you good health!
