It is up to your belief. Vitamin D2 will be converted to D3 so taking D3 is directly affecting the level but you can take either type. The really active vitamin D is active vitamin D3 but this fact is only important for people with advanced chronic kidney disease (stage 4-5 chronic kidney disease).

Vitamin D-3 is thrice as potent as D-2, and is the most appropriate for human consumption. Your level is low, and, in my opinion, you should try to get blood level of OH-Vit-D-3 to between 50-70 ng/ml. You can enhance your situation via oral intake or increased sunshine without sun-blocker. Check levels in about 3 months.
