A member asked:

Very good evening doctors. my vitamin d is 22..the physician assistant atmy cardiologists office wants to start me on prescription vitamin d. is this overdoing at the beginning? would it be acceptable to instead start with over-the-counter vitamin d3?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Likely does not matter, as it will take about 2-3 months for the level to increase, as this is a fat soluble vitamin, and the lipid stores need saturation prior to the serum level going up. The prescription will be the more expensive choice.
