Hi doctors. my vitamin d was low on bloodwork and my cardiologist wants me to take vitamin d. i am on blood pressure and cholesterol medications. is this safe? do i take d2 or d3 and how often & for how long?

There is no interaction between vitamin D supplement and medications for BP and cholesterol. You can take vitamin D3, 2,000 IU (50 mg) a day for 3 months. Have the level rechecked after month #3, you can increase dose further if level is still less than 30. I would reduce the dose to 1,000 IU (25 mg) a day if level is above 50. By my opinion, level 30-50 is adequate, no need for level above 50.

It is safe to take vitamin D3, up to 4000 units/day. Three months at that dose should resolve your deficiency and after that you may take 2000 units/day.
