A member asked:

Made a mistake of consuming a peg of whisky each for 3 days in an event right after a month recovering from an obstructive jaundice from a gallstone. have stopped since then but will those 3 days of alcohol cause any permanent damage to my liver?

The three day binge will not cause permanent damage. Abstain from any and all alcohol. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake.

While alcohol is bad for a recovering liver the amount you mention will not permanently harm your liver. It is my suggestion that you quit alcohol all together, for ever to be on the safe side. Taking it occasionally even in small amounts is a slippery slope which I do not recommend. So quit for ever- no exceptions. Wish you well.
