A member asked:

Why is it advised not to drink alcohol for a few months after having jaundice? does drinking alcohol put an overload on the liver or does it cause cirrhosis?

The body disposes of alcohol in a complex system used by the liver to break down toxins. An injured liver, from any cause including infection/drugs/poisons that shows up as jaundice needs to heal before any more stress is placed on its cells. When you kill liver cells by any means including alcohol excesses, cirrhosis is the likely endpoint.

Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. Quit while you are ahead.
