Chest x-ray showed an increased asymmetric opacity in the left superhilar region. it was not seen on the chest x-ray one year ago. im a breast cancer survivor. the doctor told me it looks like an enlarged lymph node. could this be breast cancer?

Metastatic breast cancer to the lungs less likely presents as enlarged perihilar lymphadenopathy. What was the reason for your chest X-ray? If you have a viral or bacterial pulmonary infection, increased hilar density is usually seen.

You don't mention the size of this opacity. In this case your physician should sit down with the radiologist & ask for a differential diagnosis of this opacity, ask what other studies ( ?pet scan) could be helpful in determining the nature of this opacity (? needle biopsy) or the type of follow-up that would be advisable or what consultants ((? Thoracic surgeon) could be of help at this time.
