You should take both antacid and histamine 2 antagonist (pepcid or cimetidine). Antacid liquid, e.g. Mylanta, has faster effects for burning and bloating in the first 24-48 hrs and pepcid will reduce the acidity of the gastric juice in 2 days and you should continue to take pepcid for a month or two . Alcohol abstinence is a must. Later on, you should have test for ruling out H. pylori infection.
