Measuring serum cholesterol is imporant because high levels of cholesterol accompanied by low levels of High density Lipoproteins can lead to plaque formation and damage of the blood vessels. These can predispose to a variety of problems such as high blood pressure, atherosclerosis and heart attacks.

You can go online and find a heart disease risk predictor and enter you cholesterol and see what the risk of heart disease is as cholesterol increases or decreases. Then discuss with your Dr. as these risks may be different for those like you who live in Pakistan. Live long and prosper!
