A member asked:

If a digital rectal exam shows a tumor, although ag. serum shows 2.4, am thinking of requesting urologist for an mri guided biopsy. they have the machine and i hear very accurate. i have yet to be biopsied nor diagnosed. ideas?

Digital rectal exam of the prostate detects abnormality such as nodules, induration or asymmetry and these may not always be malignant. However, a PSA of 2.4 can't not rule out prostate cancer if the previous PSA level was much lower than that, i.e. the incremental change in PSA level is more important than one absolute number. MRI-targeted prostate biopsy is probably more accurate than TRUS alone

Go ahead with the MRI guided biopsy if offered.
