I'm 42 years old. recently my periods have been irregular. october it was 45 days between periods, but the passed 2 months they have been 17 days and then 21 days apart. is this most likely perimenopause or something i should look into further?

This is the age during which much of life changes can swing widely. A little early for premenopausal but possible. If symptoms persist see the Gynechologist for evaluation and appropriate management if indicated.

Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
