The pain is located in the epigastric area which is the location of the stomach. He has pain deep inside and what you describes is just the discomfort when palpitating that relatively sensitive area. With that history, your son probably has mild gastritis due to aspirin content of excedrin. He has to stop that, take antacid like mylanta, maalox (OTC) and avoid spicy & oily foods for a week or so.
