If GI doctor had a direct visualization exam with anoscope he could tell the difference between internal hemorrhoid/fissure with anorectal cancer. You should not worry much.

I would recommend following up with the gastroenterologist if your symptoms continue. Did they do a biopsy? If they saw something on the scoping that was concerning, they would do a biopsy which would be the test for cancer, or send you for more extensive scoping, further up than the rectal area that the anoscope can see.
