A member asked:

I am a long term user of antidepressants (various ssris) for about 20 years. i have read that there is an increased risk of dementia in people who use this medication in the long term. is the evidence for this now considered to be very strong?

I have not received any info from US FDA about this side effect of SSRIs.

SSRI's do affect neurotransmitters, and may have anticholinergic side effects, which could make cognition worse, if an independent degenerative condition develops, but typically, these are often used in Alzheimer's disease to treat depression. And there is NO "very strong" evidence of cause and effect. See a neurologist if you are having memory issues.
