I have been on pristiq & cymbalta for twenty years for anxiety. i read an article published in 2018 cumulative dementia risk-ncbi & nih antidepressants can increase risk of dementia. i am 66 and need to stay on the medicine. should i be worried?

Anticholinergic med: There are a number of studies with similar titles. "Cumulative Antidepressant Use and Risk of Dementia in a Prospective Cohort Study". Most nonanticholinergic antidepressants used in late life aren't associated with ^ dementia risk. However Paroxetine may be an exception. Pristiq & Cymbalta don't fall into that class. So, please don't worry. Take care

Not so clearcut. Epidemiological studies are notoriously unreliable in general and rarely provide a scientific breakthrough. Depression can be the presenting feature of Alzheimer's years prior to clinical dementia. There is not a convincing brain chemical change causing permanent dementia from Prisiq or Cymbalta. So, talk to your psychiatrist and get this objectified.
