It's less likely the side effects of the drugs (steroid and local anesthetic) by themselves used for the injection but joint infection cannot be ruled out. If the knee gets hot and swollen with worsened pain, you need to see a doctor or go to ER right away. Otherwise, take tylenol (1,000 mg) or ibuprofen (200 mg x 3) every 6 hours as needed for the next 24 - 48 hours.
