The T. pallidum-specific tests (EIA and related technologies) are the only TP antibody tests used to check for syphilis. Other TP Ab tests are only used to confirm positive screening test results. EIA tests usually turn positive by ~6 weeks after exposure, but to be safe many experts advise up to 3 months. Same for RPR or VDRL (non TP tests), also commonly used for initial testing.

A result at 6 weeks after potential exposure is conclusive. Visit this site for more information: https://www.cdc.gov/std/syphilis/stdfact-syphilis-detailed.htm
