A member asked:

Muscle biopsy says chronic and ongoing denervation with small angular muscle fibers scattered and in regions of grouped atrophy. mild fiber type grouping suggests chronic denervation and reinnervation. what does this suggest or mean?

It means your muscles are afflicted by chronic and ongoing denervation and reinnervation for some reason. That is your nerves to the muscle area which conduct the electrical signals from you muscle to brain or brain to muscle are stopping and then reconnecting for some reason. The cause(s) should be discussed with your Drs. If a specific cause can be found the there may be a treatment. Discuss.

Although some primary muscle diseases can suggest findings like described, the far more reasonable interpretation is the presence of a likely Axonal Neuropathy causing secondary muscular dysfunction. Your current doctors should be quite able to discuss the significance and provide guidelines for further evaluation. An EMG, if not done previously, should help quite significantly.
