For recurring ingrown toenail issues, it's best to see an expert - a podiatrist or an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot surgery - to determine the best procedure to resolve the problem.

Total removal of of the nail plate for the infection is unusual or atypical. Usually using phenol acid the borders can be removed approximately 1/8 of an inch on both sides of the nail killing the root cells with phenol acid. This is an excellent procedure it works, sometimes it does have to be redone. No pain medication is required. I recommend seeing a podiatrist
