A member asked:

What is the medication usually prescribed for limited symptom panic attacks that last for hours or days?

I don't think panic attacks that last that long are limited. Your best advice would be to be evaluated by a psychiatrist who can institute both cognitive behavioral therapy and prescribe appropriate medications. Having a physical exam is also advisable The SSRI class of medications are considered first line in treatment & prevention of panic attacks. Some do well with only psychological therapy.

If used as needed, we usually prescribe benzodiazepines such as alprazolam (Xanax) or clonazepam (Klonopin).
