The panic attack: Usually has reached it's peak within 10 minutes. However, there can be residual anxiety for a number of hours later.

No easy answer: It really depends on why you are anxious and how you respond to anxiety producing situations. If you can identify an issue that sets you off, and resolve it, you may be ok. Frequently we do not know what makes us anxious. A psychologist can help identify issues and suggest ways to cope with stress. Usually physical activity helps dissipate emotional tenson and helps you relax.
