Hiv transmission in dental offices? i had several cavities and root canals done recently. my cbc with differential lab results all came back normal. i am a virgin who never had oral sex, vaginal sex or anal sex. should i have received an hiv test ?

Always possible, less likely today with all regulations in place otherwise. Talk to your doc about being tested for peace of mind.

Not likely. All offices adhere to "universal precautions". Dental offices assume that everyone is infected with something, so instruments are steam sterilized to prevent cross contamination. Don't understand why you would need to be tested for HIV.

I know of only 1 incidence of HIV transmission in a Dental Office over the last 4 decades. During that time billions of patient encounters were completed safely. Universal Precautions prevent spread of HIV pathogen. Think of it this way, do you get HIV from eating in a restaurant that cleans utensils properly? And cleaning in eateries does not approach sterilization in Dental Offices.
