Good morning doctors. why is it that when we hear about mentally ill people acting in what appears to be an irrational harmful manner to themselves or to others, these behaviors are almost never helpful or beneficial or even just neutral in nature?

Many mentally ill persons are dangerous to themselves, their families, loved ones and the public. When one sees a person acting irrational than they should report it family, friends and local authorities so help can be rendered. Not enough is being done to help these people when they need it. Too much politics and not enough centers for treatment.
