Peoples breathing rate varies depending on the activity they are doing. During eating, we can breathe less due to chewing and swallowing. If you are concerned, take a few deep breaths and remeasure. Most of the time, the SPO2 will go back up. It is not indicative of any problem if it is only for small periods of time. Persistent measurements under 94% or shortness of breath would be a worry.

If the reading is accurate, please see a physician right away. Urgent care centers are available if you are not in severe distress. The reading should be repeated. Ensure that the pulse rate is accurate. A COVID 19 test is recommended. Keep vaccinations and asthma plan current. Avoid smoke and allergens. Watch for shortness of breath and wheezing. A virtual consultation with Healthtap is available
