A member asked:

Thick axillary breast tissue on left for years. 8 months ago, swollen lymphs on left. 2 ultrasounds - normal tissue. 1 month ago, found a lump below nipple. us & biopsy showed benign + normal lymphs (1 large but "fine") chances 3 uss missed cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ultrasounds can suggest but do not define cancer. That is where the biopsy gets involved. A suggestive or equivocal ultrasound would lead to a biopsy. The biopsy is the final determinant. Could a biopsy miss something ? Possibly. That is where the combined skill of your treatment team decides what to biopsy.
