Sinusitis symptoms and discharge often are caused more by viral infection or by allergy or nonspecific irritation. Bacterial infection often is a minor player, in which case antibiotics have no effect. They're almost always tried in hope they will help, but often do not. Take the full 10 days, but if still not improved by then, discuss with your doctor. Also try nasal saline or degongestant spray.
