I'm a fan of thumbs,: Because they can't roll out of the crib or get lost. If you choose to use a pacifier now, don't lick it or use honey/ sugar on it. You'll have to decide if you want it to be a habit or if you want to discontinue it before it can become a habit at 5-6 months.

Depends: If a pacifier helps settle your child, go for it. A pacifier does much less permanent damage than a finger or thumb, and most kids quit relatively early. Digit habits, on the other hand, can persist to the point that they deform dental arches.
