Yes: A baby pacifier has one very important advantage over a baby sucking it's thumb. You can take the pacifier away. This is important in that if the pacifier is allowed to remain for too long (usually after age 3), movement of the front teeth will occur creating a space that allows the tongue to protrude. This often becomes difficult to reverse and orthodontic treatment is necessary.

Absolutely: Can affect the growth of the palate and the premaxilla. Use the properly designed ones and do not let it become part of the baby's body -- that is , limit the use as needed , not to just quiet the baby because they are making noise. They are soothing and are helpful , but far too often overused for the parent's comfort.

Definitely, yes: Prolonged pacifier use can cause problems with the proper development, growth of the mouth, alignment of the teeth and changes in the shape of the palate.
