A member asked:

D-dimer level of 1280 ng/ml and minor, but persistent pain in calf. no injuries or medical issues apart from heterozygous for factor v leiden. doppler scan showed no dvt. does why is my d-dimer level so high? does this need further investigation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, a normal d-dimer is more useful in excluding DVT. D-dimer is elevated in many conditions that have inflammation. Wish you good health!
