When my left arm is extended away from my body. and i make a fist, i feel pain in my wrist around the carpel tunnel; however, when my arm is not extended i can make a fist and even type without pain. what could cause this?

Tendonitis of one of the many hand/wrist muscle tendons. Google hand-wrist muscles and see if you can figure out which one may be the culprit by moving each one.
