At your age, neck pain is usually caused by strained muscles from poor posture — whether it's leaning over your computer or hunching over your workbench or during sleep. This condition is thousand times more common than carotid artery dissection as the cause of neck pain. Furthermore, besides neck pain other associated symptoms are also present in carotid dissection.

Unless you have a genetic disorder like Marfan Syndrome, your risk of carotid artery dissection is virtually zero. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. Spontaneous carotid dissections at age 19, would be associated with genetic and connective tissue disorders, or severe trauma to neck. If this does not apply to you, there is no reason to fear such a problem. More likely, you suffer a cervical strain, which should reverse readily over a few days.
