A member asked:

I have a procedure w/ anesthesia coming up in 6 days and from looking it up i realized that some adaptogens and supplements i take might have blood thinning effects. would it be enough if i were to stop taking them now, 6 days ahead?

In rare instances, a medication or supplement's effect may last 2 weeks. However, regarding the bleeding risk, stopping medication 6 days before the procedure is usually enough. Like aspirin with long anti-platelet effect we usually ask patient to stop it 7 days before the procedure but at times we have to do the procedure urgently after three days and we have not encountered significant bleeding.

Six days will be enough to wash out the effect of any supplements and aspirin. You should still tell your doctor all the supplements, over the counter medication and any other substances you are consuming. Wish you good health!
