Jaundice would definitely be visible in the whites of the eyes and urine would turn brownish. Carotenemia does not show up in the whites of the eyes. If you still have concerns have your child's mouth examined by his/ her pediatrician.

The sclerae (the white part of your eye) is the first site you will detect the jaundice but it is not affected in people with carotenemia. Mucous membrane (roof of mouth) is not affected, either. Carotenemia causes carotenoderma (yellow skin). Eating a lot of veggies does not cause carotenemia, only if your child eats a lot of high beta carotene contained veggies.

Take your child to his/her Dentist for examination of "Yellowish roofnof mouth." Your child should be under care not Dentist, preferably a specialist Pedodontist, since e his/her n1st b'day. None of the ob serrations noted are related to yellowing non oral mucosa.
