By UPTODATE: small chalazia often resolve without intervention over days to weeks. Patients with persistent lesions should be referred to an ophthalmologist for consideration of incision and curettage or glucocorticoid injection

Some chalazions do require surgery, yes -- but it should be done by an ophthalmologist who has special clamps to isolate the cyst and remove it.
