I worked for a company for fourteen years in a cubicle where the woman next to me smoked. i am 68 now..i dont smoke and never have. that was thirty years ago. should i be concerned about the secondhand smoke that i got that long ago? chest x-rays ok?

I wouldn't lose sleep about this exposure. Although there is a theoretical increase in risk from the baseline there is little evidence that this creates a measurable risk for non-smokers. Normal lungs have a mechanism for removing debris like smoke particles/dust/pollen/etc. which is overwhelmed by smokers placing them at risk. Discuss this with your doc at your next encounter.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. Your risk of lung disease likely increased some from the second hand smoke, though not by a measurable amount. No point in fretting about it. You can reduce your risk by adopting healthy habits: Eat a mostly vegetarian diet, avoid alcohol, and street drugs, avoid excessive exposure to sun, exercise 30 minutes each day, drink enough water so your urine is mostly colorless.
