Not likely: Could be a lesion of the larynx such as a polyp or inflammation. You should consider seeing an ENT (ear nose and throat) specialist who may do a laryngoscopy to get a good look at the area. Whatever is going on, ignoring it will not be beneficial to you. If it is something nasty, it's best to catch it early. Good choice on quitting the smoking!

Postnasal drip: Your throat clearing is probably due to a post nasal drip from your cold. If you haven't been to a doctor recently it might be a good idea to get checked out.
