A member asked:

A brother had covid 8 days ago. he tested negative today using at home test. is he safe for my 1 year old to be around? if not, what should be done to make sure he is fully cleared?

He could take the more accurate PCR test. However after 10 days and no symptoms for several days, I think his negative test was not a false negative one. This is especially true if he wasn't seriously ill.

I agree that the home tests are not as accurate as the PCR test. Children may present with fewer symptoms and GI symptoms. COVID 19 infection is most contagious earlier in the course, but self isolation is recommended for at least 10 days. Watch for signs of illness, including diarrhea and fever, and if these occur, a PCR test for your infant is recommended. COVID 19 vaccination for older members
