A sudden loss of smell is highly suspicious for Covid infection. You should arrange for a Covid nasopharyngeal PCR test in the next few days. There are sites offering free tests in most areas. You can call your state’s department of health to see where testing sites are located and to see if you need an appointment or if you can walk in. You should stay home until you get tested;wear mask for test

Agree with Dr. Ferranti. The loss of smell may be part of long Covid and may persist without any active infection. Loss of smell and/or taste has been emphasized as a COVID symptom, but it occurs fairly commonly with the common cold and other viral respiratory infections. Usually things return to normal pretty soon as the cold clears up.
