Bronchoscopy is a common procedure and is safe in well trained hands. It is often done in such situations where a pneumonia may represent a retained foreign material or there is need of a culture from the troubled area. Random antibiotic use without knowing what you are treating is rarely helpful.

A CT of the chest and evaluation of the cause by sampling will provide additional information. Discuss lipid laden macrophage index with your Pulmonologist. Chronic pneumonia may also indicate an obstruction in the airway, a non infectious cause or unusual infection. Have a COVID-19 and Flu vaccine.
