A member asked:

Hello doctor, if colonoscopy can't find an abnormality, but there is still abdominal pain, would you recommend getting an mri or a ct? or another test? or should i just take ibs medication and see if the pain goes away?

Yes, an imaging study should be in place, depending on pain location and characteristics and in order to rule out structural changes possibly involved in causing the pain. While IBS is always possible and relatively common, pain is not its cardinal feature.

Colonoscopy not showing any abnormality more or less rules colon as the cause of pain. However there other abdominal organs and structures that can be visualized by imaging studies and may be useful for arriving at the proper diagnosis.
