A member asked:

Why is the recommendation to get a tetanus booster every 10 years, but if there is a deep wound, it is switched to 5 years? if it is supposed to last 10 years, shouldnt it not matter how bad the wound is?

With a punture wound the recommendation is patient to get a boosted shot if he (she) completed a tetanus series more than 5 years ago. This will give the patient more protection although you only need booster shot every 10 years after the primary series.

Boosting stimulates the immune system in the potential situation of an exposure. with tetanus vaccine , a booster does not harm and can help to prevent disease.
